WHAT IS ANIMAL MASSAGE THERAPY?

Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissue structures manually. There are a variety of techniques involved in relieving pain and pressure within the animal muscular system. Before deciding which techniques are appropriate, the history of the animal must be discussed. This is to get an idea of the workload and previous injuries/illnesses experienced. Then an initial assessment is carried out. This involves assessing the animals body composition, statically and dynamically assessing the animal and palpation of the whole muscular system. Once this has been completed, specific areas of treatment will be highlighted and the techniques used in these areas will be chosen for treating the area.
An initial assessment can take up to 1.5 hours for a horse, and up to 1 hour for a dog. Any treatments after the initial assessment are reduced by half an hour due to a smaller assessment made at the beginning of the session.
I aim to provide results that are visible to the owner and are felt by the animal in 1-3 sessions.
